Notley Tythe Barn Wedding
There’s a difference between a wedding that looks good and a wedding that actually feels good to be at, and Katie and Will’s had both from the second the day started. Everything about it just felt easy in the best possible way. People were relaxed, enjoying themselves and properly present in the moment instead of rushing through it. That feeling stayed with the whole day and honestly set the tone for everything that followed.
The morning started with both sides of the wedding party getting ready in the same house, which instantly gave everything a different feel to the usual wedding setup. Katie had gone out earlier with the girls to get hair and makeup done while Will stayed back with the lads, and when I arrived the boys were exactly where you would expect them to be, sat on the sofa watching It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and taking the chance to properly relax before the day got going. Then, in true fashion, they somehow went from that to fully dressed in suits within about fifteen minutes.
Meanwhile the girls were enjoying their own part of the morning, getting ready together while laughing, chatting and making the most of the time before everything properly kicked off. The whole thing felt fun rather than stressful, and more than anything it felt like the morning was built around spending time together rather than simply preparing for what came next.
What stood out most to me during that part of the day was how much closeness there was between everyone involved. You could tell this was a proper tight group, the kind of people who know each other well enough that everything just flows naturally. The way everyone interacted that morning really set the tone for the rest of the day and shaped the whole story as it unfolded.
One thing I loved was the way Katie and Will handled the morning together. A lot of couples lean heavily into the tradition of staying apart before the ceremony and acting like they absolutely must not see each other under any circumstances. These two clearly were not bothered about any of that. When Katie came back after getting ready, they spent time together, chatted, shared a few quiet moments and even stole a couple of kisses while everyone else smiled watching them. It was one of those small things that said a lot about them as a couple because their closeness never felt performative, it just looked natural.
The ceremony itself was simple and did exactly what it needed to do. It brought everyone together, set the tone for the rest of the day and rolled naturally into the celebration without trying to overcomplicate anything. Sometimes that is all a ceremony needs to be, and this Notley Tythe Barn Wedding never tried to make itself something it wasn’t.

Once everyone moved into the reception part of the day, the atmosphere stayed exactly where it had been all morning. People talking, hugging, grabbing drinks, catching up and settling into the day properly. It had that classic wedding feel where everyone had relaxed into the rhythm of it and was simply enjoying themselves.
One thing that always makes a Notley Tythe Barn Wedding stand out is the venue itself. It is one of those places that gives you so much to work with visually without ever feeling overdone. The barn itself looks incredible, the grounds around it are full of brilliant spots for photos and because the whole venue sits tucked away deeper into the estate, everything feels very private and self contained. Once you are there, it really feels like the whole place belongs to the wedding for the day.
The staff there deserve credit as well because the team are always great to work with. Everything runs smoothly, everyone knows what they are doing and that helps massively in keeping the day flowing naturally.
Although the weather was a little unpredictable and the outdoor games had to be adjusted here and there, it never really changed the mood. Everyone simply got on with the day and kept enjoying themselves, which honestly suited the whole atmosphere perfectly.
We still managed to get outside for portraits and ended up with a really strong set of photos. Katie and Will approached that part of the day exactly how they approached everything else, with good humour and without taking themselves too seriously. We kept things moving, kept things playful and let their personalities lead the way, which gave us photos that felt natural to them rather than overly staged.
That is one of the reasons I enjoy being a Notley Tythe Barn Wedding Photographer. The venue gives you beautiful surroundings to work with, but more importantly it gives couples enough space to simply enjoy the day without feeling boxed in or restricted.

Once the evening started, the pace shifted straight away. The dancefloor at this Notley Tythe Barn Wedding looked incredible once it got going and the DJ absolutely smashed it. He knew exactly how to read the room and within no time people were up moving properly. Not just a few guests warming things up either, a genuinely packed floor from early on.
That energy stayed there all night. Every time I looked over people were still going, still moving and still fully in it. It never had that awkward moment where everyone disappears off and the floor slowly dies. The whole room stayed involved from start to finish.
At some point it stopped feeling like a wedding and just felt like a really good evening with the right people. People were just getting on with it, moving between the dancefloor and conversations, laughing, coming back, going again. It all felt natural, like nothing needed to be pushed or managed. I’ll take that every time.
Looking back at the whole day, what made this Modern Barn Wedding work so well was how naturally everything flowed from one part into the next. Nothing felt forced, nothing felt overplanned and nobody looked like they were trying too hard to create a moment. It was simply a brilliant day full of good people, good energy and a couple who cared more about enjoying it than performing it.
